Twenty-four municipalities lost HUF 10.8 bln after independent broker Quaestor owned by Fidesz-friendly serial entrepreneur Csaba Tarsoly went bankrupt – cabinet chief János Lázár told journalists in his weekly press conference yesterday.

Százhalombatta alone lost HUF 3.5 bln, while Győr, the city where Tarsoly had been very active, also invested in uncollateralized Quaestor corporate bonds, Lázár said. Within a few hours of the press conference, Győr’s mayor Zsolt Borkai denied having purchased any Quaestor bonds, saying that he had only purchased government bonds.
