TV2, Hungary's second-rank commercial television channel, has filed a lawsuit against up-and-coming Romanian satellite TV provider DigiTV for airing its programs without its permission, thus violating existing copyright laws, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported.
DigiTV has refuted the charges, saying that TV2 was not a pay-TV channel and thus its contents could be freely used by anyone. The Romanian satellite TV provider, which started broadcasting in Hungary in mid-February, is rapidly gaining popularity among Hungarian viewers with its cut-price packages, charging only about two-thirds of its Hungarian incumbent rivals. DigiTV currently has some 30,000 subscribers.
