Tesco revenue edges up to HUF 709 bln in past business year

Tesco-Global Áruházak, the local unit of UK supermarket chain Tesco, had revenue of HUF 709 billion in the 2012-13 business year ended in February, up 0.5% from HUF 705.2 billion in the previous year, the company told MTI on Wednesday. The company said it paid HUF 12.3 billion in "crisis tax" for the 2012-13 business year. Tesco said it added four new stores, including three Tesco express stores and a hypermarket to its network in Hungary. CEO of the Hungarian unit Nigel Jones said in the statement that last year they focused on innovation, which included the recent launch of the Tesco Online shopping service and the launch of their mobile phone service.
