Tesco helps collect 153 tons of food for the poor

The Hungarian unit of Tesco helped collect 153 tons of food for the poor, worth approximately HUF 65 million, through its participation in the Christmas Shopping initiative of the Hungarian Food Bank Association over the weekend, according to a press release issued yesterday.

With the help of 2,780 volunteers, Tesco collected 381,888 portions of food, thanks to customers who purchased food for charity in 156 of the companies stores. Tesco also donated HUF 15 mln to the association.

This traditional charity event saw a rise of 27.5% in the volume of food collected this year as compared to the previous year.

The Hungarian Food Bank and Tesco have been cooperating since 2013, and the retail chain was able to collect approximately 580 tons of food for the poor since then.
