Univer Product wins grant to develop virus-resistant peppers

Hungarian food industry company Univer Product has won about HUF 117 million in European Union and state grant money to develop and register two new types of virus- and bacteria-resistant peppers, product manager Rita Bazsó told MTI on Tuesday. The grant money covered more than half of the HUF 202 million cost of the project. Unvier Product will use the peppers to make paprika, an indispensable spice in Hungarian cuisine. Univer Product had revenue of HUF 16 billion in 2011.
