Hungary is suspending local broadcasts of Russia's RT and Sputnik, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) told news agency MTI on Friday.

"Hungary will ensure the implementation of the European Union decision to cease the Russian television broadcasters' transmission," the authority's communications director said.

The Council of the European Union decided earlier in the week to suspend the distribution of state-owned "disinformation outlets" Russia Today and Sputnik across the EU.

The NMHH said RT is offered by one TV company in Hungary, and the service provider has been instructed to remove the channel.

NMHH noted that the suspension also applies to internet service providers.
