Tax on unhealthy foods generates HUF 567 mln in first month
A tax on unhealthy foods introduced on September 1 generated revenue of about HUF 567 milion in its first month, the Hungarian Tax and Customs Office (NAV) said when asked by MTI on Monday.
The government targets revenue of HUF 5 billion from the tax this year.
"Based on [the September] data, one cannot project whether the full-year target will be achieved, but at the same time it is hoped the revenue target will be met," NAV spokesman GyĂśrgy Attila Suller told MTI.
Next year, the tax is expected to generate revenue of HUF 20-30 billion.
