A HUF 42 billion test track for self-driving cars the government is building in Zalaegerszeg could start operating by next summer, the government commissioner for the project said at the site yesterday, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The government recently injected HUF 15 bln into the trackĘźs project company to support the completion of the first phase of the investment, said LĂĄszlĂł Palkovics.

HungaryĘźs government announced the test track, the only one of its kind in a 500 km radius, in the spring of last year.

Minister for National Economy MihĂĄly Varga said earlier that the test track could add 0.1% to HungaryĘźs GDP in the short-term and another 0.3% for every HUF 100 bln in vehicle industry investments it attracts.
