The Hungarian Garden Council wants to see the country’s mushroom output double to an annual 50,000-70,000 tons by boosting domestic consumption as well as exports.
By increasing the proportion of higher quality produce in mushroom output, annual revenue of the segment could be raised from HUF 12 billion-13 billion to HUF 35 billion-40 billion, according to the council. The number of Hungarian mushroom farmers could grow from 3,000-5,000 to 8,000-10,000, it added.
The council aims to double annual domestic consumption of mushrooms to 3kg per person. It seeks to raise mushroom exports to 25,000-40,000 tons.
