Next yearʼs budget approved months in advance

The Hungarian Parliament today approved the budget bill for 2016, months before the legal deadline of October 15, with 119 voting in favor and 63 voting against and no abstentions.

The government previously said that it planned to have  next yearʼs budget approved before the end of the spring parliamentary session. Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said earlier that the 2016 budget would "serve predictability" and allow "everybody to move forward".

The parliament approved amendments to the bill before it was sent to the head of the Fiscal Council for approval.

The new budget includes a total revenue of HUF 18.500 trillion, total expenditures of HUF 16.561 trillion, and a deficit of 761 bln.
