MNB: Hungarians use their bank cards more abroad

Hungarians seem to be more willing to make bigger purchases using their bank cards when they are travelling abroad as compared to being in Hungary, the National Bank of Hungary’s (MNB) data published today suggest.
MNB found that Hungarians spent approximately HUF 18,000 per transaction when making purchases at brick-and-mortar shops abroad in the first quarter, while in Hungary, the average bank card purchase in shops came to just HUF 6,300 during the same period.
Hungariansʼ cash withdrawals abroad averaged about HUF 62,000, the data show, practically level with the average withdrawal in Hungary.
