MAV unit starts production of IC carriages

MAV-Gepeszet, the engineering unit of state-owned railway company MAV, has started making InterCity carriages at its base in Szolnok as the result of a HUF 1.4bn investment, MAV chairman-CEO Ferenc Szarvas said on Tuesday.
A European Union grant covered HUF 462m of the cost of the investment, which brings carriage production back to the domestic market after an 18-year hiatus.
The first "IC+" carriages will start carrying passengers by next year.
