KSH: Exports, imports down in August
Statistics released today by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) for August show decreases in both Hungarian exports and imports; the drops were 3.3% and 3.9%, respectively, year-on-year. On the plus side, the trade balance showed an improvement of €15 million y.o.y.
In August 2013, according to first estimates, exports amounted to €6.4 billion (HUF 1.914 trillion), while imports to €5.8 billion (HUF 1.728 trillion). The surplus on the trade balance was €621 million (HUF 186 billion) in the eighth month of the year. The share of European Union member states was 75% in exports and 71% in imports in August.
For the eight-month period, the value of exports was €53.5 billion (HUF 15.850 trillion), while that of imports was €49.0 billion (HUF 14.485 trillion) according to preliminary data. Exports and imports in Euro terms grew by 0.9 and 1.1%, respectively. The surplus on the trade balance was €40 million less than in the January-August period of 2012.
