According to the latest EU summary, Hungary is leading the way in the field of 1 Gbps internet subscriptions, Deputy State Secretary for Digitization Balázs Károly Solymár of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology said, according to profitline.hu.

Solymár added that more than 13% of domestic subscriptions are 10 times higher than the EU average of 1.3%.

According to the 2021 Digital Society and Economy Index (DESI) published by the European Union, more than 13% of Hungarian households already use the Internet at 1 Gbps.

Forecasts suggest that the growth trend will continue in the future. Hungary launched the Superfast Internet Program (SZIP) in 2014, which resulted in 30 Mbps internet coverage throughout the country by 2018.
