Hungarian farmers produce 60,000 Mangalitsa hogs annually

Hungarian farmers produce about 60,000 Mangalitsa hogs a year at present, with a farm gate price of HUF 3.6 billion, the head of the National Mangalitsa Farmers Association told Hungarian news agency MTI today.
Mangalitsas, a breed distinguished by its curly coat and prized for its marbled meat, account for just 2% of total hog stock in Hungary, but their share is higher in terms of value, said Peter TĂłth.
Sales of Mangalitsa products generate annual turnover of HUF 7-8 bln, he said. About one-fourth of output is exported, he added.
