Digital camera sales rise, but market shrinks as prices fall
Hungarians bought 130,500 digital cameras in the first half of 2006, 22% more than in the same period a year earlier. In value terms, however, the market contracted 6.5% to $28.6 million in January-June 2006, because of falling prices, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Monday, citing figures from IDC Hungary.
IDC said it expects digital camera prices to fall a further 5% during the rest of the year. It projects the biggest increases among sales of 8- and 9-megapixel cameras, with respective yr/yr rises of 83% and 141%.
The IDC analysis noted that a big increase in sales of complementary technologies, such as photo printers and PCs had contributed to the rise in sales.
