BUX outperforms Western European peers

The Budapest Stock Exchangeʼs main BUX index finished up 1.38% at 23,162.25 on Thursday after losing 0.73% on Wednesday.
The BUX index had a weak performance in the first two hours of trading with share prices falling after slight gains at the start of trading, but by midday trading was in full swing and the BUX was rising. The index held steady in the afternoon before locking in some more gains shortly before the end of trading.
The Hungarian stock market outperformed its peers in Western Europe where the share price of banks declined with those of commodity producers.
OTP gained 1.77% to HUF 6,096 on turnover of HUF 5.06 bln from a HUF 11.38 bln session total.
MOL was up 1.34% at HUF 13,960 on turnover of HUF 1.34 bln.
Magyar Telekom climbed 1.27% to HUF 400 on turnover of HUF 399 mln.
Richter was up 1.03% at HUF 4,900 on turnover of HUF 4.40 bln.
The bourseʼs mid-cap BUMIX finished 1.20% higher at 1,661.39.
Elsewhere in the region, the WIG-20 in Warsaw was up 0.31% while Pragueʼs PX index gained 0.11%.
Western Europeʼs major indices were down ahead of the end of trading. The FTSE100 in London lost 1.29% and the CAC40 in Paris edged down 0.07%. The DAX30 in Frankfurt was an exception, gaining 0.60%.
