BUX gains on European dollar loan program, support for Greece

The Budapest Stock Exchange's blue-chip BUX index closed Thursday trade up 1.01% to 16,798.21 as the announcement of an international dollar-loan program to the European Central Bank and a joint statement from Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President Nicolas Sarkozy of France that Greece's future lay within the euro-zone boosted sentiment at bourses throughout Europe.

The BUX gained 168.46 points on a composite exchange turnover of HUF 14.57 billion, fluctuating in a 1.7% range between an intra-session low of 16,583.10 shortly after morning bell and an intra-session high of 16,867.34 at 3:45 p.m.

BSE blue-chips stood as follows at Thursday's closing bell:

OTP Bank gained 2.19% to HUF 3,730 on an exchange-high turnover of HUF 7.85 billion;

Oil and gas company MOL advanced 1.12% to HUF 14,945 on a turnover of HUF 4.86m;

Magyar Telekom gained 0.83% to HUF 487 on a turnover of HUF 538m;

Drug company Richter lost 1.26% to HUF 33,400 on a turnover of HUF 1.01 billion.

The BSE Big Four generated 97.9% of the exchange's composite Thursday turnover.
