Semmelweis University Advances in THE Ranking

Semmelweis University, Hungary's top medical school, has placed in the 201-250 group in the latest annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings, advancing from the 251-300 tier a year earlier, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Times Higher Education said that R&D&I are "fundamental and integral parts" of Semmelweis University's activities, adding that traditional areas of research such as cardiology, oncology, neurosciences molecular and translational medicine along with pharmaceutical research are complemented by innovative disciplines like artificial intelligence, translational biotechnology, big data, and regenerative medicine.

It noted that Semmelweis University is one of the largest healthcare providers in Hungary, with its hospitals and clinics meeting about 5% of Hungarian patients' needs.

Other Hungarian universities on the THE list include Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), in the 601-800 group, as well as the University of Debrecen, Óbuda University, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged, all in the 1,001-1,200 group. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Corvinus University of Budapest, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the University of Pannonia are in the 1,201-1,500 tier.
