A minimum of two basic vaccinations against the coronavirus and the third booster jab are recommended for everyone, Semmelweis University Rector Béla Merkely said on Kossuth Rádió's "Vasárnapi Újság" program.

Referring to the data provided by four universities, he explained that the number of patients is decreasing again.

At Semmelweis University, only 40 people infected with the coronavirus are being treated, with one in the intensive care unit.

The epidemic is receding, the pandemic has been overcome, but the infection is dangerous, he warned.

While everyone should get three vaccinations, fourth or fifth vaccinations should be considered for the vulnerable and the elderly, he noted.

So far, 64% of the population in Hungary have received two and 40% three doses of the vaccine, the rector said.
