Székesfehérvár to offer airport developer alternatives
The local council of Székesfehérvár on Friday approved alternative plans for the city's local airport after years of inactivity by property developer Biggeorge's. Council members voted to give Biggeorges's until the end of 2020 to complete investments at the airport or return it to the local council. Another alternative approved by the council would give Biggeorge's until 2016 to spend at least HUF 2 billion on an airport for hobbyist and corporate flights. If it opts for the latter, Biggeorge's must inform the local council by 2014 or return the airport to the city. Biggeorge's said in the autumn of 2008 that it had acquired the necessary permits for HUF 15 billion of developments at the former military air base. Service of low-fare and charter flights was to have started in the first half of 2010, the company said at the time.
