2 Hungarian universities make University Impact Rankings

Ecosystem

Two of Hungary’s universities have been named in the recent University Impact Rankings compiled by Times Higher Education (THE), qubit.hu reported. Semmelweis University and the University of Szeged are both ranked among the best 200.

The University of Szeged is one of the two universities in Hungary featured on the list

The list is the first to assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. It uses indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across three broad areas: research, outreach, and stewardship.

This first edition includes more than 450 universities from 76 countries. Both Hungarian institutions are ranked in the 101-200 bracket on the list.

According to THE, the University of Szeged has a strong reputation for industry collaboration and innovation, and hosts one of Europe’s most advanced laser research centers. As for Semmelweis, the ranking says its medical degrees are recognized all over the European Union, and graduates from the university have also gone on to have successful careers outside Europe, using their knowledge to pass local licensing exams in their chosen country.

The list is led by New Zealand’s University of Auckland, followed by Canada’s McMaster University. The University of British Columbia and the United Kingdom’s University of Manchester are tied third.
