What comes with illness? Helplessness

Hungary placed near the bottom in a recent European Healthcare Index survey regarding friendliness among the EU 27 countries plus Norway and Switzerland, ranking 24th overall.
The evaluation covered five key consumer areas: patients’ rights and access to information, treatment results, waiting time for routine treatments, generosity of the system and access to medical treatment. Austria topped the list, scoring 803 of a possible 1000 points; by comparison, Hungary received a 513-point score. Immediately following Austria were Holland and France.
Research director Arne Bjönberg explained Hungary’s low score as resulting from the helplessness of patients in accessing sufficient information.
The study warns that, with the exception of Austria, all countries need reforms in healthcare, as results failed to surpass 80% of their potential. (Gazdasági Rádió)
