More construction companies wound up than established in 2012

About 5,270 construction companies were wound up last year, surpassing the slightly more than 4,000 that were established, according to data from Opten, which compiles information on companies.
In the previous year, before regulations on establishing companies were tightened, 4,800 construction companies were wound up but 6,000 new companies were established. The stricter regulations, introduced last March, were intended to prevent the owners of troubled companies from simply shifting assets into another company.
