Klubrádió sues Media Authority for HUF 1.4 billion in damages

Local community radio station Klurádio is suing the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) for financial losses it has suffered in the past four years, according to a report published on nol.hu yesterday.
NMHH has denied all charges and refuses to pay the damages, as such, the radio station is now referring the matter to the higher courts. Klubrádió won its free radio frequency at 95.3 FM in 2010 but the media authority at that time never actually signed a contract.
The radio station fought for the rights to the frequency for three years and finally won a spot at 92.9 in February of this year. Until then they had been paying hefty, commercial radio fees for their former frequency.
Klubrádió’s Chairman and CEO, András Arató, says they are suing NMHH not only for fees paid and the accumulated interest, but also for a loss of ad revenues caused by the stations unstable position in the market, aggravated by the fact that their contract was renewed only for two months periods.
The station’s reputation has been deeply damaged over the years, something from which they fear they may never recover. Until now Klubrádio’s has remained afloat through listener supported funding drives.
