Hungary 42nd in the World Bankʼs Doing Business survey

Hungary slipped back on a list that compares business regulations for domestic firms in 189 economies from an adjusted 40th place last year to 42nd this year according to the latest "Doing Business" survey of the World Bank.
The survey investigates how the regulatory environment makes the life of businesses easier or more difficult in terms of starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting credit, getting electricity, registering property, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency, and it also analyses labor market regulation.
Hungary stepped a score forward in the category of starting businesses, protected its ranking in protecting minority investors, trading across borders and enforcing contracts.
It slipped back, however, several places, when it comes to paying taxes, dealing with construction permits, registering property or getting electricity. The environment for getting credit, resolving insolvency, or registering property also deteriorated slightly.
Countries in the region outperformed Hungary with Poland placing 25th on the list, Slovakia 29th, the Czech Republic 36th, Romania 37th and Croatia 40th.
