GVH fines Hungarotel

Competition

The Competition Office (GVH) fined Hungarotel Telecom Zrt Ft 150 million.

The company, says the GVH decree, abused its market power by the tariff packages introduced back in 2001 and also by those replacing them in October 2005. Hungarotel illegally constrained the opportunity for its subscribers to choose rival telecom companies for certain services within Hungarotel’s network.

The liberalization of the telecom market made it possible for companies to use fixed-line companies’ infrastructure and provide an intermediary service. However, the new tariff packages introduced on 1 May 2006 put an end to the illegal behavior. (Napi Gazdaság, Magyar Hírlap)
