Frequency auction appeal causes delay for state-owned consortium

Competition

An existing player on Hungary's mobile telecommunications market has appealed against the result of an auction that gave a consortium of state-owned Magyar Posta, the Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) and a unit of the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) a 5MHz frequency block in the 900MHz band, business daily Világgazdaság said on Monday.

The appeal will delay the launch of network construction for the consortium until April or later, the paper said.

The consortium won the biggest frequency block in the auction. Hungary's three existing mobile telecommunications service providers – Magyar Telekom, Telenor Magyarország and Vodafone Magyarország – also won frequency blocks in the auction.
