Forint firms on IMF talks

The forint traded at 310.72 to the euro late Tuesday, firming from 315.39 on Monday on news of talks in Washington between Hungary’s chief negotiator for financial assistance and representatives of the IMF.

The forint traded at 255.86 to the Swiss franc late Tuesday, strengthening from 260.77 on Monday.

The forint advanced to 242.98 from 247.25 against the dollar.

On the secondary market for government securities, benchmark yields were up 4-7bp for terms between three and ten years but fell 5-16bp for the shortest terms.
