Five Hungarian medicine firms fined by competition authority

Five Hungarian medicine traders were fined an accumulated HUF 270 million by the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) on charges of joint cartel activities in related to four hospital public procurement procedures, online daily hvg.hu reported today.

GVH named the five companies in an announcement today: B. Braun Medical Magyarország Orvostechnológiai Kft., CHIRMAX HUNGARY Kereskedelmi Kft., Johnson & Johnson Egészségügyi és Babaápolási Termékeket Gyártó és Forgalmazó Kft., SurgiCare Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft. and VARIOMEDIC Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft.  

The authority charged the five companies with cooperating when negotiating on prices, in order to influence public procurement, as well as to share the market and set fixed prices.
