Hungary’s Competition Office (GVH) on Friday said it fined commercial television broadcaster TV2 HUF 5 million for unfair business practices. GVH said TV2 made unsubstantiated statements about its talent show Megasztár in advertisements. Among the statements GVH noted were “Megasztár is the most-watched Hungarian musical talent show of all time” and “Megasztár’s talents have accounted for almost three-fourths of the domestic popular music scene since the start of Megasztár”. GVH counted TV2’s admission that it violated the law with the advertisements as a mitigating factor.
