Aldi chain fined for business malpractice

The competition office GVH has imposed a fine of HUF 25 million on retail chain operator Aldi Magyarország Élelmiszer for unfair business practices. GVH has established in an investigation that Aldi, which offered an external hard drive product as part of a special offer between December 29, 2011 and January 4, 2012, must have known before the start of the special offer that it would not be able to provide the product in a quantity meeting demand during the campaign, but failed to point this out to consumers in its advertisements. When calculating the fine, GVH took into account that the company's previous offence and the large number of customers affected by the offer.
