Sólyom talks with regional airport, still no flights
Sólyom, a recently established holding company owned by three Hungarian private individuals, is in talks with the Győr-Pér airport, regional daily Kisalföld said.
Sólyom holding has 16 companies in its portfolio. Among them is Solyom Hungarian Airways, which aims to fill the gap in the air travel market left after national carrier Malév was grounded in 2012.
CEO József Vágó told the paper that they would initially carry passengers to Budapest using small aircraft with capacity for 30-60 passengers, and later on, if there are enough passengers, they would operate flights from Győr-Pér airport to European destinations.
Furthermore, they would also rely on the airport in the training of pilots and flight attendants. “We would reckon with four of the regional airports: Győr-Pér airport, Sármellék airport, Pécs airport and Debrecen airport,” Vágó told the paper.
Meanwhile, BBJ notes that September has come and gone without even the charter flights promised in August; news outlet Origo.hu (among others) last week reported that the 90-day period in which permits for airlines are granted has come and gone with no approval for Sólyom Hungarian Airways passenger flights in sight. The National Transportation Authority (NKH) is currently awaiting certain missing documentation.
But, hey, at least we can pretend thanks to the newly-released Sólyom flight simulator which promises to virtually “simulate the operation of Solyom Hungarian Airways as real as possible.” Of course, even the official website has to admit that, while “Naturally it means that we fly their schedules [...] this one is still pending due to the real airline has not started its operations yet.”
