Sólyom Airways unable to reach investor agreement, pay employees

Sólyom Airways has informed the company's 73 employees that it will not be able to pay their September salaries after the failure of talks with a potential investor from Oman to produce an agreement, ATV.hu, the website of the commercial television-station ATV, reported on Thursday evening.

ATV.hu reported that Sólyom Airways has been in talks with Oman Air since August regarding investment in the recently established Hungarian airline.

Sólyom Airways managing director János Lucsik nevertheless reassured on the ATV program that the lack of payroll for September is "not the end of the airline" and claimed that at least two airplanes could be flying regular flights right now due to the "serious volume of orders" for travel.

Sólyom Airways CEO József Vágó told local media as late as October 2 that the airline intended to fill the gap left when former Hungarian national-carrier Malév went bankrupt last year and to obtain its operating licenses by the middle of this month.

On Tuesday, Vágó was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons and thus did not appear on ATV.
