Report: Economy Ministry plans no casino concessions

Telco

The National Economy Ministry reportedly has no intentions to call further tenders for casino concessions, as calling tenders is “only a theoretical possibility and not obligatory”, Hungarian economic daily Napi Gazdaság said today.

However the Ministry said that it will still be possible to allocate casino concession rights based on “reliability”, adding that this is how Las Vegas Casino and Aranybónusz obtained their concessions, two companies who possess seven concessions in total.

In line with the current laws and regulations, the maximum number of 11 casino concessions can be granted throughout the country, of which already eight casinos have opened. According to the paper, the Hungarian government is planning to see a revenue of HUF 10.5 bln from the gambling tax and the concession fees from eight casinos in 2015 compared to HUF 6.5 bln collected from five casinos in 2014.
