Győr leads way in home construction
There were 653 homes built in the city of Győr (121 kilometers northwest of Budapest) in 2018, the most in any city outside of the capital, according to property market data compiled by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Following Győr, the largest number of homes were built in Budapest’s districts 9, 11 and 13, numbering 652, 639 and 441 homes, respectively.
Balatonlelle, a favored destination of tourists 141 km southwest of Budapest on the shores of Lake Balaton, was fifth on the list with 278 homes built in 2018.
New home prices came to HUF 405,000 per square meter in Győr, HUF 496,000 per square meter in Balatonlelle, and above HUF 600,000 per square meter for the top three districts in terms of construction in Budapest.
Preliminary data show that there were 9,500 homes built last year for investment purposes, around 54% of all home construction. In Budapest, around 75% of all homes were built for investment purposes, the KSH said.
