More than 20,000 families raising children have applied for home renovation subsidies since the launch of a two-year government scheme in January, Minister for Families Katalin Novák said in a video message posted on Facebook on Friday.

Novák said payouts of over HUF 17 billion had been made already to more than 10,500 of those applicants.

Under the scheme, the government is offering to cover up to half of home renovation costs, with a grant capped at HUF 3 million, for families with at least one child. Families can take out a subsidized loan to cover the other half of project costs.
