Listed real estate broker Duna House said 5,853 homes changed hands in Hungary in January, down 46% from the same month a year earlier, in a monthly estimate released on Wednesday, state news wire MTI reports.

The number of home sales fell 10% from December.

Duna House estimated households took out HUF 37 billion of mortgages in January, 66% less than in the same month of 2022 and down 10% from December. Duna House noted that early last year, the market was impacted by credit outlays in the framework of the National Bank of Hungary's Green Home Program.
