GKI: Consumer confidence slips, business confidence stable in March

GKIʼs combined gauge of consumer and business confidence in Hungary stood at -2.8 points in March, down from -1.8 points in the previous month, Hungarian new agency MTI reported today.
The business confidence index was stable at 4.6 points, as sentiment improved among industrial and construction companies, but slipped in the trade and service sectors.
Industrial companiesʼ assessment of their output in the previous period worsened but their outlook for production improved. Their assessment of inventories and order stocks improved, but their assessment of export orders deteriorated.
Construction companies gave more positive views of both their output over the past three months and their order stock.
Confidence in the trade sector fell as companiesʼ assessment of their selling position, inventories and order stock worsened.
Service sector companies said business was better but the outlook was dim.
The consumer confidence index fell to -23.8 points in March from -20.2 points in February. Householdsʼ outlook concerning their financial positions worsened though their expectations of their ability to make savings improved. Fewer consumers planned to make big-ticket purchases in the future.
The seasonally-adjusted GKI index is supported with European Union funding.
