The first phase of an upgrade of the Hungaroring race track on the outskirts of Budapest, home to the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, has been completed, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Hungaroring said the paddock and the fan zone behind the main grandstand had undergone a revamp.

To meet deadlines, ahead of the July 21 Hungarian Grand Prix, work on the development, involving some 1,500 people, often ran for 24 hours a day.

Zsolt Gyulay, who heads track operator Hungaroring Sport, said race fans would see "spectacular changes" at the circuit.

The upgrade of the circuit will continue after this year's Grand Prix and run until 2026.
