PM: No tax policy at a European level

The European Union should stop taking away power from Member States, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Brussels yesterday, before attending an EU summit. “Matters of principle must come before personal decisions” said Orbán.
Such matters include the tax policy, which should remain a national competence, in the Prime Minister’s opinion. He added that he would be glad to see whether Member States would have the right to guarantee cheap energy to their citizens.
If Brussels wants to take away a nation’s constitutional rights, this will lead to conflicts, and that is not in the interest of the EU. We need a new European policy: more agreements and less conflict, stressed the Prime Minister.
