PM criticizes EU budget in radio interview

Interview

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány criticized the European Union's budget in a radio interview on Tuesday for its failure to always consider the real needs of the member states. "The EU is sometimes not adjusted to the real needs of the member countries. They simply decide in Brussels for what they grant or do not grant money," Gyurcsány told Hungarian public radio. The PM called for an EU budget which duly considers the Hungarian needs. Hungary seeks to become one of the first three EU members with the highest per capita subsidies to realize its goals, he said.
Gyurcsány announced on Monday that Hungary would veto the British proposal for the EU's 2007-2013 budget if it does not serve its interests.
