Navracsics temporarily takes over National Development Ministry
Public Administration and Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics has been granted a temporary mandate to take over the powers of the National Development Minister under a decree by the Prime Minister effective from Wednesday.
Former National Development Minister Tamas Fellegi asked to resign earlier in December to concentrate on talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Viktor Orban accepted Mr Fellegi’s resignation and appointed him a minister without portfolio effective December 15.
Hungary is seeking financial assistance from the IMF and the European Union as a precautionary measure that would allow the country to continue to finance itself on the market. Mr Fellegi is heading the Hungarian delegation at the talks.
The National Development Minister was overseen by state secretary Janos Fonagy from the middle of December until Wednesday.
