Fundamental change to EU’s CAP not in Hungary’s best interest - official

Interview

A fundamental change in the European Union’s Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) after 2014 is not in Hungary’s best interests, but adopting an "integration model" - which uses changes that improve operation, such as better targeted subsidies - would be acceptable to the country, state secretary for farm affairs Gyorgy Czervan told a parliamentary sub-committee on Wednesday.

A European Commission proposal made in October establishes a suitable foundation for the debate on the future of CAP, Mr Czervan said.

Hungary believes Europe needs a strong, dual-pillar CAP after 2013 too, he said. However, areas of intervention must be clearly delineated, he added.
