Fellegi holds talks in Vienna
Hungarian minister without portfolio Tamas Fellegi continued informal talks in Vienna on Thursday in preparation for the start of official negotiations on financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union, the minister’s press office said.
The minister reaffirmed the Hungarian government’s resolution to reach an IMF/EU agreement at the earliest possible date, and its commitment to take steps important for macroeconomic stability and to fight the economic recession, the press statement said.
Mr Fellegi met with National Bank of Austria governor Ewald Nowotny as well as Deputy Governor Wolfgang Duchatczek. He also held talks with Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter.
The parties reviewed recent economic developments in Hungary and agreed on the necessity of the continuation of intensive bilateral talks.
The delegation led by Mr Fellegi will hold talks in Brussels with European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro Olli Rehn on Friday. Mr Fellegi will also meet Director General at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union Carsten Pillath, Belgian Finance Minister Steven Vanackere, EU Commissioner Laszlo Andor as well as KBC Group CEO Jan Vanhevel.
