Czech gov’t may cut 2009 budget gap by over 40%

Interview

The Czech Finance Ministry may prepare a 2009 central state budget with a deficit lower by more, than 40%, than this year’s target of 71 billion koruna ($4.35 billion), a senior ministry official said on Wednesday.

“I could imagine something in a range of 40, 50 billion,” Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Fuksa told commercial radio Impulse. The comments were the first indication of the finance ministry’s budget deficit plans for next year. The ex-communist European Union member Czech Republic could have a balanced state budget after 2012, Fuksa added. The deputy minister made no further comments on budget plans. (Reuters)
