Romanian Jobless Rate Ticks Down in May

Romania's unemployment rate stood at 5.5% in May, down by 0.1 percentage points from the rate recorded in April, the Bucharest-based National Institute of Statistics (INS) said on Friday.

The number of unemployed dropped by 13.600 from a month earlier to 447.450. By gender, the jobless rate decreased for men (5.9% vs 6.1%), while unchanged for women (5%).

Adults aged 25 to 74, who were without a job in May represented 76.1% of all unemployed people.

Unemployment among people aged 15 to 24 remained high at 21.7%.
