Employment in Poland Reaches Record, PIE says
For the first time in history, employment in Poland has reached more than 17 million people, Andrzej Kubisiak, deputy director of the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), noted on Tuesday, citing Eurostat data, according to news agency PAP.
He added that the Polish labor market after the pandemic has shown a markedly better dynamic than in the EU as a whole.
Eurostat reported that employment in Poland in the first quarter of this year rose by 109,800 people to 17.62 million.
Kubisiak added, referring to Eurostat, that, for example, in the third quarter of 2019, total employment in the Polish economy was 16,42 million. In the first quarter of the pandemic year 2020, employment was 16,485 million, but in the second quarter it fell by over 200,000 to 16.272 million people.
According to Kubisiak, when it comes to changes in employment in the period since the outbreak of the pandemic, Poland has recorded clearly better dynamics than the European Union as a whole, and compared to other countries. At the same time, he ma de a reservation that the full results for all countries are not yet available.
According to the economist's calculations, employment in Poland increased by 4.3% compared to the pre-pandemic level, while for the entire EU it is 2.9%. as a whole, and compared to other countries.
