Germany-based automobile manufacturer Opel has so far made 400 new hires at its new engine plant in Szentgotthárd, and headcount will rise by another 60 by year-end, Opel Magyarország spokesperson Judit Csontos reported to state news agency MTI.

Headcount will rise by several hundred and reach about 1,000 by 2015, Csontos added.

Opel started production at its €500 million engine plant in September 2012. The company launched a €130 million expansion at the plant in April and decided in July to invest a further €60 million at the base.

Production capacity at the plant is set to reach an annual 1 million units by 2015.
