American-owned Opel, based in Germany, saw its Hungarian market share in car sales drop to 10.7% last year, yet the company remained a market leader, Gábor Koncz, managing director of Opel Magyarország, said yesterday, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

Although car sales were flat at approximately 10,200 last year, and the overall market expanded by 14%, Opel was still able to retain a leading position, Koncz said. Opel also retained its market leading position in the passenger car segment for a fifth year in a row, with a market share of 11.45%, the managing director said.

This year, Opel aims to boost sales in line with the expansion of the market as a whole, despite a slowed pace of growth, MTI reported citing Koncz.
